Utility Week: National Grid urged to pause controversial scheme

Utility Week recently cited a Neara study finding that public support for building new pylons in their area more than doubles when they are linked to clean energy projects, increasing from 12% to 26%. The study was mentioned in the context of public opposition to National Grid’s proposed Norwich to Tilbury electricity transmission project, which involves building new overhead pylons. Neara managing director Taco Engelaar as quoted as saying “Despite the boost that sustainable credentials bring, the general public isn’t clamouring to have new pylons installed in their area – opposition which is completely understandable.” He went on to emphasize that emphasizing that while sustainability credentials can boost support, it’s crucial to explore ways to maximize existing infrastructure.
